About Source of Joy Publishers

With her life dedicated to the Lord at an early age, Gayle Chandler has been in Christian service most of her life. She met her husband, Jack at Bible College. Together they have served in full time ministry for almost four decades, serving as youth pastors and senior pastors.
Within the church, Gayle has been involved in a variety of facets, including organizing ministries for children, worship, prayer teams, and women. Many years, she directed a children’s camp for area churches. She designed a five year rotating plan where a child from ages eight through twelve would be three years of the weekly camp in the Old Testament and in the New Testament for two years. The uniqueness of this yearly camp allowed every child to be placed in a family setting, which provided security and a great learning environment. Many adults and teens were engrafted into this memorable program.
Gayle gave birth to and oversight of a yearly pastoral women’s retreat. Only women in full time ministry, including women pastors, and pastor’s and associate’s wives were welcomed to a weekend of being pampered, encouraged, and exhorted. They were given a safe setting to grow and be enriched through a variety of special themes, speakers, involvement, and gifts.
Both she and her husband have been very involved in service to their community. Jack was a Senior Pastor for 37 years. He pastured the same church for 30 years. He was a strong team player in the community serving in many capacities. His ministry encompassed being head chaplain of the police department, president of the Human Rights Commission for the city, president of the Ministerial Association, president of the Red Cross Board, on the Executive Committee of the YMCA, president of the Child Abuse Prevention Council, chairman of the annual Mayor’s prayer breakfast, and he was instrumental in bringing about a pastor’s prayer time which drew 20-25 participants weekly. Gayle brought unity among area churches of all denominations with a quarterly program called Women in Professional Ministry. Many lasting friendships were developed. A yearly women’s Conference emerged from this relationship, ministering to hundreds of women. It gave a platform for local ladies to teach workshops and minister in music.
Foreign Missions is a very strong part of their ministry, with serving in 28 countries. They have ministered in all the Central American countries, plus New Guinea, Portugal, Haiti, Trinidad, the Dominican Republic and several countries in Africa. This included conducting pastors and leadership conferences, being guest speakers at national conventions, and leading missions outreach teams.
About the Author
Besides designing curriculum for camps, conferences, and retreats, Gayle has added a new dimension of communication. For over twenty years, she has enjoyed researching the meaning of people’s names from a Biblical perspective. Her research on names began as a service to parents for the dedication of their baby. Along with several scriptures, she creates a power packed paragraph affirming God’s identity in that person. It has grown to be used at weddings, funerals, camps, retreats, parties, overnighters, and countless other venues.
Some approach a name as a good luck charm based on externals – one’s looks, occupation, and physical achievements. Gayle takes it to the very core of a person – connecting their heart with the very heart of their Creator God. It is undeniable the impact that happens when you realize your name is an extension of the very likeness of Jesus Christ and is fully expressed when you know His love for you.
In her first book, Affirming You, there are eight hundred names and definitions. This resource serves as a tool to fulfill her passion in helping people fulfill their God given identity and purpose. She currently desires to eventually see a Spanish version of her book including the most popular Hispanic names. She has already started a list of a new variety of names for a future book. She is available for book signings and speaking engagements. She and Jack have one daughter and one grandson and reside in Kernersville, North Carolina.
